Employment and Academic Appointments:

  • Founder and Director of the “Institute for Molecular Imaging Instrumentation” (I3M), a research institute from CSIC & Technical University of Valencia, since April 25th 2011.

  • Full Research Professor of the “Spanish National Research Council” (CSIC), since March 10th 2010. Previously, CSIC Research Scientist (June 12th 2006) and CSIC Tenured Scientist (May 5th 1995).

  • Associate Scientist at CERN, 1997-98, working in the development of new particle detector technologies with F. Sauli (group of Georges Charpak, Nobel Laureate in Physics 1992), T. Ypsilantis and J. Seguinot.

  • Research Associate Staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Oct 15th 1992- Dec 31st 1995), working under the direction of Prof. Jerome Friedman (Nobel Laureate in Physics 1990). My research was on the data analysis of the CDF (Collider Detector at Fermilab) experiment (Chicago, Illinois) searching for the top quark and new particles.

  • Guest Scientist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.) for the CDF experiment (Spanish Ministry of Education & Science fellowship Mar 1st 1991- Aug 31st 1992).

  • Associate Scientist at CERN, from July 10th 1987 to Dec 20th 1990, work led by Profs. Ugo Amaldi and Antonio Ferrer on the DELPHI detector development and data analysis of the experiment. Fellowships: University of Valencia (Apr 1st 1987- Dec 31st 1988), Spanish Ministry of Education & Science (1989-90).

  • Research Associate of the “Laboratoire de Physic Nucleaire et des Hautes Energies” (LPNHE), Paris (Oct 1st –Dec 31st, 1988) and at the Université d'Orsay, Paris (Oct 12 –21, 1987).

Committees:

  • Evaluator of projects for the 6th, 7th and current European Framework Programs.

  • CSIC consultant for R+D AENOR (Spanish certification agency) projects. President (nominated by OPTI, Spanish Ministry of Industry) of a panel of 15 Spanish experts that reported in year 2008 on the future of Medical Imaging technology.

  • Member of a panel of experts promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Science that evaluated Universities of Excellence in Spain (2011).

  • Member of a panel of experts, promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Science in 2016, that established the Spanish Program for Scientific Research (2017-2020).

  • Member of a panel of experts, promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Science, from 2011 to 2018, that evaluates large research infrastructures in Spain.

Prize of the “Rey Jaime I Foundation” in the “New Technologies” modality, delivered by the former King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, for the “Development of a mini Gamma Camera for Intra-Surgical Applications”. (100k €).

2007

Prize of the Spanish Society of Medical Physics for the “Design and Development of a PET camera for performing physiological studies with small animals”.

2002

Technologist Award of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine & Biology, received at the conference of the WFNMB (Santiago de Chile October 4, 2002), for the invention of a new surgical device called “Gamma Functional Navigator”.
